Uniboard’s melamine press completed ahead of schedule and on budget

VAL-D’OR PLANT COMMENCES PRODUCTION EARLIER THAN EXPECTED

Laval, December 7, 2009 — Uniboard Canada Inc., today unveiled its newest investment, a state-of-the-art thermofused melamine press at its Val-d’Or, Quebec facility. This brings the total number of installed thermofused melamine presses to 10 within the Uniboard panel division, representing the largest capacity among North American producers.

This newest thermofused melamine press was installed ahead of schedule and within budget, and is now up and running in the Val-d’Or facility. 

“The addition of the new press has been a great investment for the future of our mill,” states James Hogg , President and CEO of Uniboard. “The project has been a total success due to the excellent cooperation of our Val-d’Or project team and the support of various government bodies. We are excited to utilize this machinery to its utmost capability in the production of thermofused melamine panels.”

Gilles Lépine, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, sees this as very good news for Uniboard’s customers:  “The flexibility of this new equipment, will allow Uniboard to take advantage of its key markets in Quebec, Ontario and the North Eastern United States. The new Val-d’Or press furthers our strategy to exploit Uniboard`s global manufacturing product network and product capabilities to offer a  true ONE-STOP experience for our distributors and customers - something which is unique in the North American composite panel industry.’’

This additional capacity has positioned Uniboard as a leader in the development of thermofused melamine panels for the furniture, kitchen and bath cabinetry, closet, storage, store fixtures and retail industries. The new press at Val-d’Or is the result of Uniboard’s ongoing mandate to continually improve service and strengthen its leadership position with clients in the key markets of Quebec, Ontario and the North Eastern United States.

The $2 million investment project follows a year of planning and implementation through the support of Canada Economic Development and Investissement Québec agencies.
