UNIBOARD LAUNCHES NEW LD-1 AND LD-2 DOOR CORE PARTICLEBOARD COMPLIANT WITH ANSI A208.1-1999 STANDARD

GordonPly to be preferred partner for distribution of the product in Québec, Ontario and Atlantic Canada

Laval, Québec, February 3, 2009 —Uniboard is pleased to launch its brand new product, an LD-1 and LD-2 Door Core particleboard designed for manufacturing interior doors for commercial and residential construction. Uniboard is proud to supply this product to door manufacturers through distributor GordonPly, which has an exclusive agreement covering the Québec, Ontario and Atlantic Canada region.

Uniboard, a leading North American manufacturer of engineered wood products, is proud to announce that its manufacturing plant in Sayabec, Mont Joli, Québec, will produce the Door Core particleboard, compliant with the ANSI A208.1-1999 standard. The Composite Panel Association (CPA) has certified that the LD-1 and LD-2 board produced by our Sayabec plant passed all physical and mechanical tests and was thereby compliant with the 20-minute fire-rating test.

In addition, Uniboard’s particleboard products are certified to be Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) CPA 3-08. These standards are equal to those stated in the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Phase 1 standard, in effect since January 1, 2009. They contain 100% recycled pre-consumer wood fibre, which saves trees and avoids landfill. Door Core particleboard can also be manufactured using a process that adds no urea formaldehyde.

LD1 and LD 2 particleboard allows building professionals to earn LEED credits and points in two categories: Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ 4.4) and Materials and Resources (MR 4.1, 4.2, 5.1 and 5.2).
