UNIBOARD INVESTS $160 M TO BUILD WORLD-CLASS MDF/HDF PLANT ON AMERICAN SOIL
Uniboard Moncure will have a annual production capacity of 400,000 cubic meters (226 million square feet, ¾ inch basis)
Laval, Quebec (July 10, 2009)-Uniboard, a North American leader of manufactured engineered wood products, is pleased to give an update about the construction of its new Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) and High Density Fiberboard (HDF) plant in Moncure, North Carolina. “Construction of our new Moncure MDF facility continues to advance on schedule. Not only will it be the biggest and most cost efficient mill in North America, it will also have the most technologically advanced equipment capable of producing the highest quality panels you can depend on,’’ states Mr. James Hogg, CEO of Uniboard.
Eighty percent of the foundations are complete and 50% of production and warehouse areas are also complete. Most floors that are under the roof have been poured and most heavy equipment has been set in place.
Strategically located in North Carolina, our state-of-the-art MDF facility will be a jewel in flexibility. It will be able to produce multiple grades, thicknesses and sizes for manufacturers of kitchen cabinetry, office and residential furniture, store fixtures, flooring and molding. The Chatham County plant will also supply material to Pergo, a sister company in the region that develops, manufactures and markets laminate flooring for both home and commercial areas.
Uniboard’s Moncure MDF facility is part of the Moncure mega-site, which currently offers particleboard and thermofused melamine panels providing true one-stop-shop capabilities for our customer. “As a distributor or if you buy direct, how many panel companies can bring this type of flexibility to the game?’’ states Mr. Hogg. Start-up is planned for Q4 2009.
