UNIBOARD COMPLIANCE WITH CARB PHASE 1 EMISSIONS
All the Uniboard offerings are now certified CARB phase 1,
including inventory made before and after November 1.
Laval, Québec (January 9, 2009) - The California Air Resources Board (CARB) began regulating the formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products (particleboard, Medium Density Fiber (MDF), High Density Fiber (HDF) and Plywood) sold or used to make finished goods offered for sale in the state of California effective January 1, 2009. All products containing composite wood products must comply with the new regulation.
The new regulation affects products that are manufactured from composite panels such as cabinets, store fixtures, flooring, etc.
With regards to this regulation, Uniboard mills manufacturing wood composite panels, (Sayabec, Val d’Or, Mont-Laurier and Moncure) are certified by the Composite Panel Association (CPA) to produce CARB ATCM 93120 compliant particleboard and MDF. Since November 1st, 2008 Uniboard has converted 100% of the standard product offering to CARB Phase I. All the Uniboard offerings are now certified CARB Phase 1, including inventory made before and after November 1, 2008.
Uniboard has updated the Labelling, Notification and Recordkeeping with the CARB Compliance Requirements. A statement of compliance must be included with either the invoice or the bill of lading. Compliance statements must include the manufacturer’s name, the certification number of the third-party compliance agency and the compliance standard met by the product.
Uniboard’s particleboard products are also certified to Environmentally Preferable ProducT (EPP) CPA 3-08. These standards are equal to those stated in CARB Phase 1 effective January 1st, 2009.
