Uniboard® is proud to announce that all its production facilities in Quebec and in the United States have been certified by the Composite Panel Association (CPA) as compliant with regulation ATCM 93120 of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Phase 2 emissions standards, for the production of raw particle board and medium density fiber (MDF). Only the new Moncure MDF facility remains in the final stages of obtaining certification.

Certification of all our production facilities represents a significant step in our efforts to ensure that all our North American operations are compliant with CARB Phase 2 standards. This certification sets us apart from our competitors and signals to our customers that they can continue to count on Uniboard® to meet their needs once the new regulations come into effect in January 2011.

In 2008, the State of California adopted a resolution to address formaldehyde exposure from composite wood products through the establishment of emissions controls. The new law set upper limits on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products sold in the state or used to make finished goods offered for sale in the state. The first phase of the regulation, known as CARB Phase 1, took effect on January 1, 2009. All Uniboard® products have been in 100% compliance with CARB Phase 1 since November 1, 2008.

Uniboard®, a leading North American manufacturer of engineered wood products, is pleased to announce that it has been approved as a manufacturer of Ultra Low Emission Formaldehyde (ULEF) particleboard by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Uniboard®'s use of ULEF resin in the production of its NU Green® zero products has earned the company an exemption from the requirements of section 93120.3(b) of the Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products.

"The approval of our application to use the ULEF designation solidifies NU Green® zero's position as the greenest solution available on the market today," says Lise Plante, Product Manager, Panel Business Unit. "Not only is NU Green® manufactured using 100% pre-consumer recycled wood fiber, but now, through this exemption, it is also recognized as complying with CARB Phase 2, the world's most stringent emission standards.”

The CARB reserves ULEF categorization for products whose formaldehyde emissions are consistently below 0.04 ppm (CARB Phase 2) and NU Green® is consistently below 0.01 ppm.
